So this is the Strong Sex: Early Women Psychoanalysts >>

  • The Freud Museum 20 Maresfield Gardens London NW3 5SX United Kingdom (map)

An exciting, historically focussed exhibition in collaboration with the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna, exploring the lives and work of women from the early history of psychoanalysis. Showcasing the major influence that Helene Deutsch, Emma Eckstein, Sabina Spielrein, Marie Bonaparte, Anna Freud and Lou Andreas-Salomé had on the work of Sigmund Freud as well as the development of psychoanalysis.

The exhibition challenges the idea of psychoanalysis as a science dominated by men, and explores the development of international women’s movements, the issues of childcare in Vienna of the 1920s and 1930s, and core topics of psychoanalysis such as the Oedipus complex, sexuality, femininity and transference and countertransference.
