Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color >>

  • Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology 27 Street Seventh Avenue New York City 10001-5992 (map)

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) explores the fascinating debts of the many realities, nuances, dimensions, and meanings of pink. From innocence and femininity to seductive and independent, the color is nothing if not divisive and balances between Barbie dolls, stereotypes of pink-for-girls versus blue-for-boys, the Women’s March pink pussy hats and flamboyant vulgarity.

The exhibition, that is curated by Dr. Valerie Steele, features approximately 80 ensembles from the 18th century to now and includes names such as Elsa Schiaparelli, Jeremy Scott of Moschino, Christian Dior, Alessandro Michele of Gucci, , Yves Saint Laurent, and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons.
