Bringing realities & families together

 DoubleMe  Harrison Fund  Mixed Reality

World’s first holographic experience to bring families together

Sometimes technology, mediums and life mix together to blur traditional boundaries and make cool moments happen. Harrison’s Fund has teamed up with pioneering digital and technology partner including MIND FASHION's experts DoubleMe as well as Orbital Media and Squire to showcase how advancements in holographic mixed reality technology can revolutionlise family communication, from anywhere in the world.

The technology is brought to life through a film about the real-life story of a young boy and his grandpa. In the film we meet Harrison, an 11 year old boy who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder that results in muscle deterioration. Because of Harrison’s condition, his movement is increasingly restricted making it difficult for him to see his Grandpa.

The meeting of grandson and grandpa becomes possible by marrying Microsoft’s HoloLens, the self-contained mixed reality glasses with DoubleMe, the world’s first HoloPortal™ that converts 2D videos into dynamic 3D models in real-time. Together, the technologies enable users like Harrison to see a hologram of their loved one such as their grandfather and have a conversation as if they were in the same room.

Alex Smith, Founder of Harrison’s Fund said: “Duchenne has no good news stories, it’s a one way trip downhill and with that comes the challenges of just doing normal things with Harrison. We knew there must be a way to help make family time with friends and loved ones a little easier. The meeting of cutting edge technology and family in this way is so very special.”

“When Harrisons Fund  approached us to try to find a new way to bring a family together, I thought this a really good opportunity to spotlight how the HoloPortal™ and holographic mixed reality can  blur the traditional communication boundaries and show what was once pure science fiction, is now a present accessible reality,” comments Albert Kim, DoubleMe, Founder.

Hayden Allen-Vercoe, COO at Orbital Media, comments: “Our passion to bring tomorrow’s technology into real life is brought to life with this film of Harrison and his grandpa. The use of holographic technology with VR, AR and mixed reality solutions is game changing for how people can interact with each other and how brands can interact with consumers. With the outstanding technology advancements we can change people’s lives.”
